Bits and Pieces

New bookcases
I did enjoy Nanny Diaries. It was cute. I've been off from work this week and would have loved to gone and see Kelly and boys again but am in charge of the quarterly Relief Society temple trip and that was this Wednesday. It was a hoot. I drove and only 4 women signed up. Janice Roney, Eldis Jensen, Wanda Mintz and Pat Litza. The last three are all in their 70's at least and a wee bit absent minded, don't hear well and walk slowly. I was afraid Wanda and Eldis would get in a cat fight at one time over Wanda's GPS being too loud. The conversations we had were hilarious. I actually had a great time in the 6 hours of driving time to and from Medford. It is great to hang out with new people and be entertained. I think a fun time was had by all.
Lee's brother, Dane, is in town and spending a couple nights with us. I just made some chocolate chip cookies so they can have some when they get back from dinner. They went golfing and out to eat with some lumberman afterwards so I didn't have to cook tonight. On Thursdays we have a Farmer's Market here in town and this guy cooks the best ribs and trip tip over wood chips. That is always Thursday dinner for us. I got some ribs for tomorrow night and will just make sides to go along with it. I am excited to have someone come stay with us in this house!
My favorite new sandwich or panini is to take a dense bread like Pugiliese and slice it. Put sliced fresh mozzerella on a slice, a couple pieces of salami, and fresh basil. I brush some olive oil on the outside slices and cook it in my George Foreman/pseudo panini press. I then open it up and put some fresh Farmer's Market tomatoes (Heirloom tomatoes) and enjoy. Yumm, yumm.
I am reading Nicholas Sparks book, Dear John, and it is a fast and good read so far. Tried Peace Like a River but am not really feeling it. Loved A Thousand Splendid Suns!!! One of my favorite books. Any other good reads out there??
We absolutely love our new house and where we are living. The weather has been perfect here. I love to go on the deck, look at the trees and read. I love the peace and quiet that is this neighborhood. I hate that winter is coming though.
I feel lame because I am way past being an adult and am so excited that the Fall Shows are back. I love to mindlessly lay back at night and be entertained. I try to always have scriptures read by the time they start. Does that count for anything?
My favorites:
1. Lost-can't wait till February! I think the writing is amazing on this program
2. Prison Break-are Michael and Lincoln amazing looking or what????
3. America's Next Top Model
3. 24- have loved it in the past but didn't care for last year
4. Top Chef, Next Design Star, Project Runway, American Idol
Watched Cane the other night, looks good.
Tonight is Survivor, Grey's (kind of over it), and ER. I am pathetic. I listen to other women, smart, accomplished women talk about how they NEVER watch tv and how worthless it is. I just remain silent and look forward to curling on the sofa with my blanket at night.

Oh mom, you are funny! I am looking forward to the shows starting up again but I'm dying that Lost doesn't start until February. I'll have forgotten everything by then!
I LOVE your living room and I wish I could be your visitor!
I can't help you in the good book department b/c I am rereading Harry Potter now and I'm on book 6. I haven't read anything else in a while. Someone recommended The Glass Castle the other day to me. And I really want to read The History of Love. I'll for sure be reading A Thousand Splendid Suns after HP.
When are you coming to visit?

Oh yeah, and it sounds like a very interesting trip! Remember when Eldis always called me Lindsey and Lindsey Kasey? You had a car full of crazy women!

Mother I am dieing laughing right now! You are hilarious. I realize that even though you are close to thirty years older than me we are so much alike! I hope I am still young at heart when I get to be an old grandma. J/K You too are accomplished and smart but just enjoy some good veg time every once in a while.

I love your book shelves, don't you? They look really good. You're over Grey's? How sad. I don't think I will ever be over it! Oh remember I told you that someone told me about Reading Loleta in Tiran? Get it!

I DO NOT recommend Reading Lolita in Tehran. I started it and got so bored! Maybe it gets better towards the end, but I was not a fan. It is about a book club and they discuss a few classics that I've never read. And I had a hard time keeping up with who was who. Check it out at the library or something before you waste 10 bucks.

Okay! Well I guess I won't get that book! I totally screwed up the spelling of it. Whoops. Thanks for letting us know Kas.

I am so excited to be your visitor!!!! Will you make me your sandwhich while I am home? Your life sounds really appealing...new amazing house, sitting and reading, good food, curling up on the couch with a blanket and watching all the new fall shows. I am jealous.

I have heard really good things about Reading Lolita in Tehran...disappointing you didnt like it Kasey.

I've seen this book a lot lately...it is called Suite Francaise and it looks really good. Seems like something we'd like mom. You should check it out and let me know what you think.

Well I think you are accomplished smart, and you watch TV, so you must be doing everything right!! Entertainment is a great way to stay connected to the world (not necessarily true reality, but they're great stories!).

I LOVE those bookcases! Love how they are painted different inside. Your house sounds awesome and I'm glad you are enjoying the peace of it. Sitting on your deck sounds like heaven. I will have to read the splendid suns book...I haven't been able to read too often with Keal, but someday I need to start again. My show is the Biggest Loser. I don't know why, but I love it and love Bob the trainer. And I DVR house flipping shows lately...the BEST way to watch tv!!! And I can just picture you on that trip with all those crazy old ladies! I loved Pat when we were little and can picture her just like I was taking tap lessons yesterday!

I am with you on the tv thing all the way- that is downtime for me each night and I look forward to it.

Your house looks great!

My dad said your house is absolutely beautiful. It looks awesome! I'm sure you are excited that it to finally done.
I am glad you mentioned how much you liked "A Thousand Splendid Suns." I was debated whether or not to get it. I personally have not read anything great lately, nor do I watch tv which is really making me wonder what exactly I do.
